The annual whale migration in Australia is something that you have to witness if you’re travelling the East Coast of Australia from June – November and a Byron Bay whale watching tour is the perfect way to get up close to them as they cruise the coast.
These gentle giants make their way up to the breeding grounds an migrate back down south with their new born calves in the later part of the season – jumping, tail slapping and playing around in the waters.
As the most Easterly point of Australia Byron Bay is one of the prime whale watching locations – with hundreds of these beautiful ocean dwellers cruising past each year. You’ll head out towards the marine reserve of Julian Rocks and the main bay in search of whales, stopping off to spot the local dolphins and turtles too along the way.
Keep your camera at the ready as the whales regularly get up close to the boats and have no problems with jumping out of the water to show off.
Joined by a marine conservationist you’ll learn heaps about these majestic giants and with an onboard hydrophone you’ll be able to listen to their songs and calls too!
Please note: tours operate from the Brunswick heads Marina just 15 mins from Byron Bay
