The Hobbiton movie set tour is one of the most popular day trips in the whole of New Zealand – a country which is famed as the “real Middle Earth” as it provides the stunning backdrops for the Lord Of The Rings and Hobbit movies.
Situated just outside of Matamata in the North Island the Hobbiton Movie Set (aka “The Shire”) is one of the best places to relive your favourite moments from the movies.
Explore the many Hobbit holes which scatter the hillside, jump over the famous fence and enjoy a cold beer or cider at the Green Dragon.
You’ll be guided around the Shire and learn heaps of behind the scenes knowledge about the making of the movie and how the set itself was created.
